Nowadays, the use of virtual reality headsets is obviously related to interactive games, virtual sightseeing tours, and educational programs. However, the trading desk of the future may well exist in virtual space thanks to the virtual reality headset. Bloomberg LP unveiled the unprecedented virtual trading terminal. Bloomberg's prototype puts infinite number of screens before traders’ eyes, allowing them to view as much financial data as they want. Currently, no matter how many screens traders add to their desktop, they can practically make use of several monitors in limited workspace. To solve that problem, Bloomberg LP developed innovative software for Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset of the new generation. However, it is still a long way from becoming a real product. Interestingly, at the startup stage, the team was able to captivate investors, thus raising over $91 million which was allocated for research and promotion campaign. Meanwhile, the virtual trading terminal has been tested by users and journalists. Bloomberg plans to show off the technology at the Bloomberg Next Big Thing Summit. Besides trading, the Oculus Rift helmet perfectly suits video games as it ensures the utmost involvement in the virtual reality. Oculus Rift has been welcomed by a large number of professional gamers and developers of game companies. John Carmack, an American game programmer and the co-founder of Id Software who developed Doom and Quake, got interested in the device and stated it would have a promising future.
