DIW Institute Cuts German Growth Projection

The DIW Berlin Economics Institute anticipates that the German economy will remain stagnant throughout the current year, with a more robust recovery not expected until next year. The institute predicts that economic output will continue to contract into the next quarter, leading to a recession. Overall, the year's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to remain static, a downward revision from an earlier forecast of a 0.6 percent growth.

For the year 2025, the institute has increased its GDP growth forecast to 1.2 percent, a slight improvement on the initial projection of 1.0 percent. Factors contributing to this anticipated growth include improving consumer sentiment and increased equipment investment. However, the institute warns that the output gap will still be in the negative far into 2025.

Marcel Fratzscher, President of the DIW, cautioned that the path to economic resurgence in Germany remains riddled with obstacles.
