Boeing Co. (BA) anticipates sustained long-term growth, forecasting a 4% annual increase in air cargo traffic through 2043. The company projects the global air cargo fleet will expand to 3,900 aircraft by 2043, marking a substantial rise from the 2,340 freighters recorded in 2023. This growth is primarily attributed to high-demand Asian markets, where the large widebody freighter fleet is expected to nearly double. Significantly, nearly 50% of new production and conversion deliveries will replace aging freighters with more advanced, fuel-efficient models, addressing recent market demands which have prolonged the service life of older jets.
The fastest traffic growth is predicted in East and South Asian markets, spurred by burgeoning economies and increasing consumer demand. The Asia-Pacific fleet is expected to almost triple, with airlines in the region predicted to require approximately 980 freighters. North America is close behind, with an estimated need for 955 freighters. Collectively, these two regions are expected to comprise more than two-thirds of global aircraft deliveries. Notably, India's domestic air cargo sector is projected to nearly quadruple, driven by the swift expansion of express logistics and e-commerce platforms.
