The current account surplus contracted to €2.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from €3.8 billion during the same quarter the previous year. This reduction was primarily caused by a change in the goods account, which moved from a €2.6 billion surplus in the fourth quarter of 2023 to a €0.08 billion deficit. However, the surplus in the services and primary income accounts grew to €2.2 billion and €1 billion, respectively, compared to €1.2 billion and €0.9 billion in the previous period. The secondary income deficit remained steady at €0.9 billion. On an annual basis, the current account surplus increased to €11.7 billion, up from €6.3 billion in 2023.
