Retail sales in Hungary rose by 3.3% in February 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, marking a slowdown from the 4.7% increase recorded in January. Within the subcategories, growth also tempered: automotive fuel sales grew by 0.4%, down from 1.9% in January; sales of food, beverages, and tobacco increased by 3.5%, compared to 4.7% previously; and non-food product sales climbed by 5.0%, following a 5.6% rise. When adjusted for seasonal variations, retail activity saw a monthly decline of 0.6% in February, a stark contrast to the 2.2% increase witnessed in the preceding month. Notably, the retail trade for the initial two months of the year was up by 4% compared to the same timeframe in the prior year.
