In March 2025, Slovakia's trade surplus contracted to EUR 406.4 million, down from EUR 503.8 million recorded in the same month the previous year. This reduction is attributed to imports rising at a faster pace than exports. Specifically, imports surged by 13.1% year-on-year, reaching EUR 9,383.2 million, primarily fueled by a significant increase of 16.4% in machinery and transportation equipment purchases. Imports from EU countries climbed by over 10%, while those from non-EU nations soared by 19%. On the export front, Slovakia saw an 11.3% increase, totaling EUR 9,789.7 million, with machinery and transport equipment witnessing their highest annual growth since August 2023, at 12.1%. Exports to EU countries grew by over 6%, whereas those to non-EU countries saw a remarkable rise of almost 31%. For the first quarter of the year, Slovakia's trade surplus experienced a steep decline to EUR 379 million from EUR 1,681.2 million during the same period last year.
