Imports to Germany experienced a 1.4% decrease in March 2025, settling at EUR 112.1 billion, a three-month low. This downturn follows a revised 0.5% increase observed in February, marking the first monthly decline since December 2024. The dip in import activity was driven by a significant drop in arrivals from the EU, down by 3.5%, with the Euro area seeing a sharper decline of 5.8%. In contrast, imports from non-Euro area countries rose by 1.1%. Additionally, there was a 0.8% increase in imports from third countries, largely attributed to significant upticks in purchases from China, which rose by 9.6%, and the United States, which increased by 7.9%. Conversely, imports from the UK fell by 5.8%. In the first quarter of 2025, Germany's total imports were up by 5.1%, amounting to EUR 339 billion compared to the same period in the previous year.
