In April 2025, Sweden experienced a reduction in its trade surplus, which fell to SEK 6.6 billion from SEK 7.1 billion in April of the previous year. This was the smallest trade surplus recorded since December of the previous year. The decrease was primarily driven by a 7.2% decline in exports, which amounted to SEK 169.5 billion, influenced by reduced sales to both EU and non-EU countries, which fell by 7.1% and 7.3% respectively. Imports also saw a decline of 7.2%, dropping to SEK 162.9 billion, with decreases in purchases from the EU and non-EU countries by 3.1% and 1.5%, respectively. However, when considering seasonally adjusted figures, the trade surplus increased to SEK 8.2 billion, up from SEK 7.4 billion in the preceding month. Over the first four months of the year, Sweden's trade surplus grew to SEK 44.8 billion, a considerable rise from SEK 37.1 billion during the same timeframe the previous year.
