Lithuania Q1 GDP Growth Revised Lower

In the first quarter of 2025, Lithuania's economy experienced a modest growth of 0.4% on a quarter-on-quarter basis. This was slightly below the preliminary forecasts of a 0.6% increase and marked a deceleration from the 1.0% growth observed in the preceding quarter. Analyzing the production side, the slowdown in GDP was chiefly driven by contractions in the information and communication sector, which fell by 3.2% compared to an earlier growth of 3.4%. Additionally, there was a decline in professional, scientific, and technical activities along with administrative and support services, which dropped by 1.6% following a previous rise of 1.3%. Other areas that contributed to the downturn were arts, entertainment, recreation, repair of household goods, and other services, which decreased by 1.1% from a slight gain of 0.2%.

From an expenditure perspective, capital formation saw a significant slowdown, increasing by only 0.5% compared to a robust 9.1% in the prior quarter, while household consumption fell by 2.7% after seeing a 2.3% rise previously. Conversely, government spending showed a marginal increase of 0.3%, improving from a stagnant performance in the preceding quarter. On an annual basis, Lithuania's GDP grew by 3.2% in the first quarter of 2025, which is a deceleration from the 4.0% growth recorded in the previous quarter.
