In April 2025, retail sales in the Netherlands rose by 4.2% compared to the same month the previous year, following a revised increase of 4% in March. This represents the tenth straight month of growth in retail sales, with this month's uptick being the most significant during this period. The growth was fueled by increased sales in both the food sector, which rose by 2.5% (up from 2.4% in March), and non-food items, which saw a 5.2% increase (up from 4.9%). Notably, food sales surged in specialty shops, reaching 7.7%, compared to 3% previously. Within non-food items, clothing experienced a substantial rise of 6.9% compared to 4.3%, and sales of DIY products, kitchens, and flooring grew by 6.3%, up from 4.7%. Additionally, furniture and home furnishings sales increased by 2.7%, a notable gain from the previous 0.5%. However, when looking at seasonally adjusted figures, retail trade slightly declined by 0.1% in April, following a revised gain of 1.1% in the previous period.
