In May 2025, the number of individuals registering as unemployed in Spain decreased by 57,835, or 2.3%, bringing the total to 2.455 million. This marks the first instance since July 2008 that the figures have fallen below the 2.5 million threshold. Analysts had projected a more significant decrease of 68,500 individuals. Unemployment levels dropped across all sectors during the month, with the services sector experiencing the most considerable reduction (-42,930; -2.4%). This was followed by declines in the construction sector (-5,562; -3%), industry (-4,574; -2.4%), and agriculture (-2,259; -2.8%). Additionally, the number of individuals previously unregistered as unemployed decreased by 2,510 (-1.1%). The youth unemployment rate for those under 25 years of age also fell, with a reduction of 6,426 people (-3.6%) from the previous month, resulting in a record-low total of 171,003 for this demographic group.
