In May 2025, Hungary's annual inflation rate increased to 4.4%, slightly up from April's five-month low of 4.2% and surpassing the anticipated 4.3%. Notable price hikes were observed in food, climbing to 5.9% from April's 5.4%, as well as in electricity, gas, and other fuels, which rose to 5.3% from 3.5%. Additionally, the costs of alcoholic beverages and tobacco escalated to 7.3% from 6.3%, and consumer durables increased to 2.2% from 2%. Conversely, inflation in the services sector saw a decrease, moving from 7% down to 5.9%. On a monthly comparison, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in May, maintaining the same growth rate as the prior month. Furthermore, the annual core inflation rate, excluding volatile components like food and energy, retreated to a five-month low of 4.8% in May, down from 5% in the preceding month.
