In May 2025, retail sales in Macedonia experienced a notable increase of 2.8% compared to the same period last year, bouncing back from a 1% decline recorded in April. This represents the most substantial growth in retail activity since December, largely propelled by a considerable surge in sales of non-food items, which rose by 5.1%, a significant turnaround from the 6.4% decrease observed in April. Additionally, there was continued growth in the sales of automotive fuel, which increased by 4.1% following a 6.1% rise in the previous month. Conversely, the sector experienced an accelerated decline in the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which fell by 0.5%, compared to a slight 0.1% decrease in the prior month.
