The seasonally adjusted number of total dwellings approved in Australia experienced a 3.2% increase in May 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 15,212 units. This rise aligns with preliminary estimates and follows a 4.1% decrease recorded in April. It represents the first uptick in dwelling approvals since January, largely fueled by a significant surge in approvals for private sector dwellings, excluding houses, which saw an 11.3% increase. Additionally, permits for private sector houses showed a modest rise of 0.5%. Regionally, there were notable increases in approvals in Victoria (up 14%) and New South Wales (up 11%), whereas declines were observed in Tasmania (down 8.8%), Western Australia (down 7.5%), Queensland (down 6.7%), and South Australia (down 6.2%).
