In June 2025, passenger vehicle sales in India fell by 6.3% compared to the same month the previous year, hitting a six-month low of 275,766 units. This decline, reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), contrasts with a 0.8% increase observed in May. The statistics do not account for sales from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and Volvo. This represents the first reduction in passenger vehicle sales in nine months, largely attributed to sluggish demand in urban regions. Nevertheless, SIAM maintains a cautiously optimistic outlook for the July-September quarter, buoyed by the upcoming festive season and initial signs of an improving demand. On a month-to-month basis, sales dropped by 9.0% after a marginal 0.2% decrease in May.
