Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 3.5% for the three-month period ending June 2025, consistent with the previous term and maintaining the peak reached in May, the highest since December 2022. The unemployment count remained constant at approximately 136,200, while overall employment decreased by 7,400, settling at 3.66 million. Notably, unemployment rates rose predominately in the construction and food and beverage service sectors, whereas decreases were observed in the arts, entertainment and recreation, and professional and business services sectors. The youth unemployment rate, specifically for those aged 20-29, increased to 6.8% in June, reaching its highest level since November 2022. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate remained unmoved at 56.7%. In the future, the unemployment rate will hinge on the overall economic trajectory. The influx of new graduates and school leavers during the summer could influence employment figures, but ongoing economic expansion in Hong Kong is anticipated to bolster the labor market.
