In May 2025, the value of building plans approved in South Africa increased by 13.2% year-on-year to ZAR 9,210 million, concluding a three-month decline. This growth was driven by a significant rise in approvals for additions and alterations, which surged by 52.1% compared to 2.6% in April. There was also a modest increase for residential buildings, up by 3.4% from a previous decline of 19.6%. However, approvals for non-residential buildings saw a reduction of 4%, though this was an improvement from the previous steep drop of 42.4%.
