Kyrgyzstan GDP Soars 11.5% but Economy Still in Crisis

Kyrgyzstan's GDP saw a robust expansion of 11.5% year-on-year from January to July 2025, slightly improving from a revised 11.4% growth in the initial half of the year and significantly surpassing the 8.1% increase witnessed in the same period the previous year. Industrial production surged by 11.3%, fueled by notable growth in the pharmaceutical sector (including beverages) and tobacco at 49.0%, as well as considerable advances in the rubber, plastics, and building materials sector at 33.5%. The wood, paper, and printing products sector rose by 30.6%, chemical products increased by 29.3%, and mineral extraction saw a boost of 14.6%. The construction sector experienced a substantial jump of 37.8%, while wholesale and retail trade grew by 13.2%, with agriculture recording a modest rise of 2.3%. Despite this impressive GDP growth, the Kyrgyz economy is struggling, burdened by a 26.3% reduction in exports, a 9.4% drop in imports, and growth that remains limited to a few sectors. Meanwhile, consumer prices and tariffs have increased by 4.7%, with significant hikes in food prices, particularly for fruits (30.8%) and potatoes (28.6%).
