France Household Consumption Falls in July

In July 2025, household consumption in France experienced a 0.3% decline from the previous month, a slight deviation from the market forecast of a 0.2% decrease, and a reversal from the revised 0.4% increase recorded in June. This latest figure represents the first decrease in household spending since March, primarily attributed to a reduction in energy consumption, which dropped by 1.7% compared to a 3.4% rise in June. This decline was largely due to decreased demand for petroleum products, notably diesel, alongside a slight reduction in electricity usage following a period of significant growth. Concurrently, expenditure on manufactured goods remained relatively stable, increasing by 0.4% compared to 0.5% in the prior month. Food consumption also saw a marginal dip, declining by 0.1% following a 0.9% decrease in June, as diminished demand for agricultural products was partially counterbalanced by a modest recovery in agri-food items.
