In July 2025, job openings in the United States decreased by 176,000, reaching a total of 7.18 million—the lowest since September 2024 and significantly below the anticipated 7.4 million. The most considerable reductions were observed in the health care and social assistance sectors (-181,000), arts, entertainment, and recreation (-62,000), as well as in mining and logging (-13,000). On a regional scale, the South experienced the largest decline (-161,000), with the Northeast (-101,000) and Midwest (-27,000) also seeing reductions. Conversely, the West defied this trend by adding 113,000 job openings.
