Hungary Retail Sales Eases to 4-Month Low

In July 2025, Hungary's retail sales reflected a year-over-year increase of 1.7%, a deceleration from June's 3% growth rate. This represents the slowest expansion in retail trade since March, influenced by a reduction in the growth rate of sales for food, beverages, and tobacco, which rose by 2.3% compared to 3.7% in June. Non-food product sales also saw a decrease in growth, registering a 2.9% increase compared to the previous month's 3.9%. Additionally, sales of automotive fuel experienced a decline of 2.4%, reversing the 2.5% rise observed in June. On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales fell by 0.5% in July, consistent with the decrease recorded in June. From January to July, retail sales showed a 2.9% increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
