Euro Area Employment Edges Higher

In the second quarter of 2025, the Euro Area experienced a modest rise in employment, with the number of employed individuals increasing by 0.1% from the preceding quarter, reaching a total of 171.594 million. This marks a deceleration from the prior period's 0.2% decline but aligns with initial estimates and market forecasts. This quarter continues a 17-quarter stretch of employment growth, highlighting a gradual yet steady expansion of jobs within the European labor market. Among the major economies, Spain saw the most significant employment increase at 0.7%, while both Germany and France experienced stagnation. Italy, on the other hand, saw a slight reduction in employment, with a decrease of 0.1%. When compared to the previous year, employment experienced a 0.6% rise, a minor adjustment from the initial estimate of 0.7%.
