Belgium Trade Surplus Narrows Sharply in July

Belgium reported a significant decrease in its trade surplus for July 2025, registering EUR 2,148.1 million compared to EUR 4,344.4 million in July 2024. This decline was primarily due to a sharper reduction in exports than in imports. Exports fell by 8.7% year-on-year, reaching EUR 41,623.2 million, influenced by reduced shipments to both EU countries (-7.7%) and non-EU countries (-10.8%). On the other hand, imports decreased by 4.4% to EUR 39,475.1 million, with a notable decline in purchases from EU countries (-8.8%), although there was an increase in imports from non-EU countries (2.3%). For the first seven months of 2025, Belgium's trade surplus totaled EUR 12,731.7 million, a decrease from EUR 14,381 million during the same period in the previous year.
