In August 2025, Australia saw a 2.6% decline in private house approvals, bringing the total to 9,027 units, as per preliminary data. This decrease follows an upward revision of a 1.3% rise in the previous month. The drop in approvals was primarily attributed to significant reductions in Victoria (-8.3%), New South Wales (-6.2%), and South Australia (-1.7%). Conversely, there were increases in approvals in Queensland (2.9%) and Western Australia (1.7%). Comparing these figures year-over-year, there was a 3.5% decrease in private house permits.
