Mauritius Inflation Cools to 4-Month Low

In September 2025, the annual inflation rate in Mauritius decreased to 4.4%, marking the lowest level in four months, compared to 4.8% in August. The slowdown in inflation was observed in several categories: food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a price increase of 1.1%, down from 2.8% in August; transport costs rose by 3.9%, slightly lower than the previous 4%; alcoholic beverages and tobacco experienced a price rise of 9.2%, down from 9.5%; clothing and footwear prices increased by 2.8%, compared to 3% earlier; and education-related costs saw a 6.7% increase, down from 6.8%. Conversely, certain sectors experienced price hikes: housing and utilities increased to 2.2% from 2%; furnishings and household equipment went up to 4.6% from 4.5%; recreation, sports, and culture costs rose to 3.1% from 3%; and personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services saw an increase to 2.6% from 2.4%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices dipped by 0.2%, following a previous decrease of 0.1% in August.
