Norway Manufacturing Output Rises for 2nd Month

Norway's manufacturing output experienced a 0.7% increase in August 2025 compared to the previous month, building on a revised 0.4% growth in July. This marks the second month in a row of expansion in the sector. The surge was primarily fueled by a significant rebound in the production of transport equipment not elsewhere classified, which surged by 24% following a 13.4% decline in July. Similarly, the output of fabricated metal products increased by 11.7% after a 6.7% drop, while the production of refined petroleum, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals saw a 5.3% growth compared to a 1.4% reduction previously. Additionally, declines in the production of paper and paper products eased slightly, decreasing by only 0.9% compared to a 2.2% reduction in the previous month. Conversely, manufacturing activity for ships, boats, and oil platforms fell by 3.3% after a 3.1% increase in July. The textile, clothing, and leather industry saw a 0.7% decline following a 4.6% rise, and the repair and installation of machinery dropped by 0.1% after a 3.6% gain. Annually, the manufacturing sector's output rose by 5% in August, marking the most substantial increase in three months, following an upwardly revised growth of 1.6% in the prior period.
