Private house approvals in Australia experienced a 2.6% decline in August 2025, bringing the total to 9,027 units. This downturn followed a 1.3% rise in the previous month, aligning with preliminary forecasts. The drop in approvals was primarily attributed to reduced activity in Victoria (down 8.3%), New South Wales (down 6.2%), and South Australia (down 1.7%). Conversely, Queensland and Western Australia saw increases in approvals, at 2.9% and 1.7% respectively. Year-on-year, approvals for private houses fell by 3.5%, contrasting with a slight 0.1% uptick observed in July.
