In September 2025, Canada's unemployment rate remained steady at 7.1%, slightly below the anticipated 7.2% but still the highest since August 2021. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 11,900 (0.7%) to a total of 1.61 million. Meanwhile, employment numbers rose by 60,400 (0.3%) to reach 21.02 million, significantly exceeding the forecasted modest increase of 5,000, and partially compensating for the previous two months' decline of 106,000 (0.5%). Notably, full-time employment saw a substantial rise of 106,100 (0.6%), while part-time employment decreased by 45,600 (1.2%). The employment rate inched up by 0.1 percentage point to 60.6%, the first increase in three months, and the labor force participation rate also rose by 0.1 point to 65.2%.
