Canada Employment Growth Tops Forecasts

In September 2025, Canada's employment figures showed a significant increase of 60,400 jobs, marking a 0.3% rise and reversing a previous decline of 65,500 positions in the earlier month. This growth far exceeded the market's expectation of a mere 5,000-job increase. The surge was primarily driven by a substantial boost in full-time employment, which grew by 106,100 positions or 0.6%, more than compensating for a decrease of 45,600 part-time jobs, a 1.2% drop. Notably, the manufacturing sector saw an increase of 28,000 jobs, a 1.5% rise, while health care and social assistance gained 14,000 jobs, a 0.5% increase, and the agricultural sector added 13,000 jobs, representing a 6.1% growth. Conversely, wholesale and retail trade experienced a decline of 21,000 jobs, down by 0.7%. Regionally, Alberta saw a prominent employment rise with 43,000 new jobs, a 1.7% increase, followed by New Brunswick with 4,700 jobs, a 1.2% rise, and Manitoba with 3,900 jobs, up by 0.5%. In contrast, Newfoundland and Labrador experienced a decrease of 2,200 jobs, marking a 0.9% reduction.
