Montenegro Inflation Rate Rises to 16-Month High

In September 2025, Montenegro experienced an uptick in its annual inflation rate, reaching 4.9%, up from 4.6% in the previous month. This figure represents the highest inflation rate recorded since May 2025. The rise can primarily be attributed to increased costs in several categories. These include food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose to 6.6% from 5.5% in August; housing and utilities, which slightly increased to 7.3% from 7.2%; transportation, which saw a more significant rise to 1.8% from 0.5%; and furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, which climbed to 5.1% from 3.7%. Health costs also went up, reaching 13.4% from 13.1%. On the other hand, prices for recreation and culture moderated, decreasing to 7.7% from 8.2%, while miscellaneous goods and services also saw a reduction, falling to 3.4% from 4.2%. The costs for clothing and footwear reduced significantly, down to -4.7% from 3.3%, while communication costs continued their downward trend to -0.6% from -0.1%. Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco remained steady at 6.1%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices fell by 0.1% in September, reversing the 0.5% increase observed in the previous month.
