Gold production in South Africa experienced a 3.6% decrease in August 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, indicating the second month in a row of declining output and worsening from the 0.4% decrease observed in July. This contraction reduced the year-on-year growth in the country’s total mining output by 0.4 percentage points. On a seasonally adjusted basis, gold production also saw a 3.6% decline in August, following a 0.9% decrease in July.
