The European Union plans to engage in discussions with a Chinese delegation in Brussels this week regarding Beijing’s recent imposition of restrictions on rare-earth exports. This move comes as Europe seeks to protect its industrial sector. According to a spokesperson from the European Commission, officials from China are scheduled to visit on Thursday, with initial discussions having taken place via a video call on Monday. Earlier this month, China’s Ministry of Commerce implemented stricter export controls on rare earth minerals, necessitating government approval for certain materials and products utilizing specific technologies. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU will intensify efforts to secure alternative sources and establish mineral partnerships with countries like Ukraine to mitigate reliance on China.
