U.S. and Malaysia Sign Trade and Critical Minerals Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim formalized a trade and critical minerals accord on Sunday, aimed at fortifying economic connections and mitigating China's growing influence in the rare earth sector. The agreement, signed in Kuala Lumpur, is designed to enhance trade across agriculture, technology, and services as Malaysia adjusts its tariffs and non-tariff barriers. According to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the critical minerals pact is intended to maintain trade and investment in rare earths as open and robust as possible. Anwar praised the agreements as “a significant milestone” that would bolster bilateral relations well beyond trade collaboration.
