France Household Spending Rises More than Expected

In October 2025, household consumption in France grew by 0.4% from the previous month, surpassing the anticipated market increase of 0.2% and picking up pace from September's 0.3% growth. This represents the most robust expansion in household spending since June, chiefly bolstered by a more rapid increase in energy spending, which surged by 1.4% compared to September's 0.6%. The spike in energy consumption was largely attributed to heightened gas and electricity usage, as October was the coldest in three years. Additionally, spending on food products saw a quicker rise, moving up by 0.4% compared to 0.1% in the previous month, fueled by greater consumption of agricultural and agri-food products. Meanwhile, spending on manufactured goods remained relatively steady following a 0.4% increase in September, with a slight decline in textiles and clothing balanced by a modest rise in other manufactured goods. Annually, household consumption also grew by 0.4% in October 2025.
