Brazil Nominal Deficit Widens in October

In October 2025, Brazil experienced an increase in its nominal budget deficit, which expanded to R$81.5 billion from the previous year's R$74.7 billion. The consolidated public sector reported a primary surplus of R$32.4 billion, which is a decrease from the R$36.9 billion surplus recorded in October 2024. The Central Government achieved a surplus of R$36.2 billion, while both regional governments and state-owned enterprises reported deficits amounting to R$3.6 billion and R$149 million, respectively. Nominal interest reached R$113.9 billion, marginally surpassing the R$111.6 billion noted the year before. Over the twelve-month period leading up to October, the nominal deficit amounted to R$1.0249 trillion, representing 8.18% of GDP, slightly up from R$1.0180 trillion or 8.15% of GDP in September.
