FX.co ★ Italy Current Account Deficit Narrows Sharply

Italy’s current account deficit narrowed sharply to EUR 1.8 billion in January 2026, down from EUR 4.2 billion in the same month a year earlier. The goods surplus expanded markedly to EUR 1.2 billion, compared with EUR 0.2 billion in January 2025, while the services deficit edged down to EUR 0.9 billion from EUR 1.1 billion. At the same time, the primary income surplus increased slightly to EUR 0.5 billion in January 2026 from EUR 0.1 billion a year before, and the secondary income deficit declined to EUR 2.6 billion from EUR 3.4 billion.
