Mexico’s economic activity index declined by 0.3% year-on-year in January 2026, following a 3.3% increase in December and marking the sharpest drop since August 2025. The secondary sector led the downturn with a 1.1% contraction, largely reflecting a 3% decline in manufacturing. In contrast, services edged up 0.1%, supported by a 3.8% increase in healthcare and social security activities. The primary sector expanded by 1.6%, as livestock production grew 3.5% and agricultural output rose 0.8%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, overall economic activity fell 0.9% month-on-month, after a 0.2% gain in December.
