European Gas Prices Decline Again

European natural gas futures fell nearly 3% on Friday to below €45, erasing the previous session’s gains and reaching their lowest level in more than five weeks. The decline came as traders assessed the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East and the prospect of upcoming US–Iran negotiations.

President Donald Trump signaled optimism about securing an agreement to end the six-week conflict but later issued a warning to Tehran over its decision to levy transit fees on vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Iran again imposed restrictions on shipping through the key chokepoint following Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

At the same time, Qatar has reportedly started preparations to restart LNG production at the Ras Laffan facility after the ceasefire announcement. The plant has been out of operation since early March, when it was struck by Iranian missiles. Initial output could resume in the coming days, though the speed of the production ramp-up will hinge on whether LNG carriers can safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
