Danish Business Morale Falls in August

Denmark’s manufacturing confidence indicator slipped to 97.9 in August 2026, down from a three-month high of 99.2 in July, moving further below the long-term average level of 100. Production expectations softened, with the corresponding balance falling to 13 from 16 in the previous month, while employment prospects remained in negative territory, unchanged at -9.

More broadly, the composite business confidence indicator—which encompasses manufacturing, construction, retail, and services—rose to 106.7 from 105.3. Sentiment improved in both the services and retail sectors, with confidence climbing to 108.8 and 111.4, respectively, from 107.3 and 106.2. By contrast, confidence in the construction sector edged down slightly to 100.4, compared with 100.6 a month earlier.
