Japan's consumer sentiment showed a slight improvement for the second consecutive month in July, according to survey data released by the Cabinet Office on Tuesday.
The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index increased to 36.7 in July, reaching a three-month high, up from 36.4 in June. This uptick exceeded economists' expectations, which had projected the index to rise to 36.5.
The latest survey, conducted on July 15, involved 8,400 households, providing a substantial sample size.
Breaking down the components, the index measuring households' overall livelihood rose by 0.7 points to 34.5. The index for willingness to purchase durable goods went up by 0.4 points, reaching 30.0.
The employment index also experienced an increase, climbing by 0.3 points to 42.0. However, the only sub-index to decline was income growth, which saw a minor decrease to 40.4 from 40.6.
