Retail sales in Greece experienced a 1.9% year-over-year increase in January 2025, marking a recovery from the 5.4% decline registered the previous month. This upturn encompassed both the food sector, which saw a 4.3% rise compared to a 6.3% decrease in December, and the non-food sector, excluding automotive fuel, which increased by 3.7% following a 3.3% drop in the prior month. Meanwhile, the trade in automotive fuel contracted at a slower rate of 6.9%, improving slightly from the 7.4% decline observed previously. On a seasonally adjusted basis, monthly retail sales rose by 0.6% in January, rebounding from a 3% decrease in the earlier period.
