In May 2025, Finland’s unemployment rate rose to 10.5%, up from 10.2% in May of the previous year. This represents the highest unemployment rate since May 2020. The increase is attributed to a rise in the number of unemployed individuals, which grew by 9,000 compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 308,000. Concurrently, the number of employed persons declined by 19,000, totaling 2.626 million. Notably, the unemployment rate for individuals aged 15-24 fell to 28.1%, which is a decrease of 2.2 percentage points from the previous year. The participation rate for those aged 15 to 74 also experienced a decline, slipping to 70.4% from 70.9%. Furthermore, the employment rate for people aged 20 to 64 dropped to 77%, down from 77.8%.
