President Trump announced on Tuesday the decision to not grant any additional extensions for the implementation of reciprocal tariffs, which were previously postponed until August 1. "According to the notifications dispatched to several nations yesterday... TARIFFS WILL BEGIN ON AUGUST 1, 2025. The timeline remains unchanged, and no alterations will be made. This means all payments will be due and payable starting August 1, 2025—no extensions will be allowed," Trump declared on Truth Social, his own social media platform. On Monday, Trump publicized letters detailing trade tariffs for 14 countries—including Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Indonesia, and Thailand—with rates ranging from 25% to 40%. These tariffs are scheduled to be enacted next month. Additionally, Trump revealed on Tuesday the introduction of a new 50% tariff on all copper imports into the United States, although the specific commencement date for this tariff has not yet been disclosed.
