According to preliminary data, Croatia's trade deficit decreased to €1.4 billion in May 2025, compared to €2.0 billion in May of the previous year. This positive change was primarily a result of a significant reduction in imports, which dropped by 14.4% year-over-year to €3.5 billion. Meanwhile, exports experienced a slight increase, rising 0.4% to €2.0 billion. Over the January to May timeframe, the trade deficit fell to €8.0 billion, down from €8.4 billion in the corresponding period in 2024. Exports increased by 5.4% reaching €10.2 billion, driven by heightened demand from both EU nations (5.9% increase) and non-EU nations (4.1% increase). Imports saw a modest rise of 0.7% to €18.2 billion, fueled by a notable surge in purchases from non-EU countries (13.2% increase), while there was a decline in imports from EU countries (-2.7%).
