Senegal Inflation Rate at 6-Month High of 1.8%

In July 2025, Senegal experienced a noteworthy increase in its annual inflation rate, reaching 1.8%, compared to 0.8% in June. This sector's prices saw the fastest upturn in half a year. There was also an acceleration in the costs related to housing and utilities, at 1.1% compared to 1.0%, and in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, climbing to 8.0% from 7.7%. Conversely, inflation rates experienced a downtrend in the transport sector, which decreased to 1.4% from 1.6%, as well as in health, which fell to 1.7% from 2.2%. The clothing and footwear sector saw a slight decline in prices by 0.1%, as opposed to a minor increase of 0.1%. Moreover, the decrease in the prices for information and communication was less pronounced, at -3.0%, compared to -4.5% previously. When energy and fresh products are excluded, the core index showcased a 4.0% year-on-year rise, up from a 2.8% increase in June. On a monthly scale, consumer prices rose by 1.1% in July, marking the highest monthly ascent in six months, following a 0.9% increment in June.
