In September 2025, net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals in the UK escalated by £1.2 billion, reaching a total of £5.5 billion, marking the highest level since March 2025, which was at £13.2 billion. The annual growth rate for net mortgage lending climbed to 3.2%, up from 3.0% in August, achieving the highest increase since January 2023, when it was 3.4%. Gross lending in September reached £24.9 billion, an increase from £23.0 billion in August. Gross repayments also experienced a slight rise in September, increasing to £20.3 billion from the previous £20.0 billion.
