Portugal experienced a slight uptick in its unemployment rate, climbing to 6.0% in September 2025 from a revised 5.9% in August, following July’s five-year low of 5.8%. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 4,300, reaching a total of 337,200, while employment figures saw an expansion of 9,400, setting a new record at 5.287 million. Both the employment rate and the labor force participation rate achieved unprecedented levels, recorded at 65.7% and 69.9%, respectively. Concurrently, the labor underutilization rate, which includes the unemployed, marginally attached individuals, and part-time workers seeking full-time positions, experienced a minor rise to 10.2% in September, up from 10.1% in the preceding month.
