FX.co ★ FTSE 100 Rises for 3rd Session

The FTSE 100 experienced an uptick for the third consecutive session on Monday, bolstered by advancements in the precious metal mining and banking sectors. Notable movements included Endeavour rising over 3% and Fresnillo climbing approximately 2.5%. The financial sector displayed strength as well, with Standard Chartered increasing by more than 3%, Barclays by over 2%, and HSBC, Lloyds, and NatWest all advancing around 1%. In other notable stock movements, Glencore saw an increase of over 2%, Antofagasta gained about 1.5%, and Rio Tinto grew by 0.6%. Conversely, Anglo American emerged as the primary underperformer, shedding nearly 1%. BHP, after unsuccessful acquisition efforts in 2024, engaged in preliminary discussions with Anglo American but has since withdrawn its latest proposal. Anglo American, currently in the process of merging with Teck as part of a strategic restructuring to maintain its independence, declined BHP's approach. Investors are also anticipating the release of the UK budget scheduled for Wednesday.
