In October 2025, retail sales in the Netherlands experienced a year-on-year increase of 3.1%. This represents a deceleration from the 3.8% gain observed in September and the slowest growth in retail activity since May. The moderation in growth was largely attributed to a less pronounced rise in food sales, which recorded a 3.2% increase compared to 4.2% in September. Supermarkets reflected this trend with a growth of 3.7% down from 5%. Sales in specialty stores witnessed a slight uptick of 0.1%, contrasting with a decline of 0.7% previously. The growth in non-food product sales also slowed, registering at 3.1% against 3.6% the previous month. The decline in sales of consumer electronics and white goods were evident, falling by 1.7% compared to a drop of 2.5% earlier. Meanwhile, clothing sales rose by a modest 2.2%, down from 4.6%, and furniture and home furnishings increased by 4.5%, a slight dip from 4.6%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity in October contracted by 0.2%, following a 0.3% growth in the prior period.
