Dutch Retail Sales Growth Picks Up in November

In November 2025, retail sales in the Netherlands experienced a 3.9% increase compared to the same period last year, up from an adjusted 3.3% rise observed in October, representing the most significant growth in three months. The non-food sector saw a 3.8% turnover increase, buoyed by robust performances from drugstores (8.6% growth), recreational goods (nearly 5% growth), and DIY stores (over 4% growth), alongside improved sales in furniture, home furnishings, and clothing sectors. However, consumer electronics stores witnessed a drop in turnover. The food sector experienced a 4.1% uptick in sales, bolstered by supermarkets (4.2% increase) and specialty food stores (2.9% increase). Online sales outpaced the overall retail trend, rising 5.9% from the previous year, with online-only retailers seeing a 6.5% increase, particularly notable in online food and drugstore sales, which surged by 11.5%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade grew by 0.5%, recovering from a 0.1% decline in October and marking the largest increase in four months.
